Explore the Journey of Coffee Plant Cultivation Process

The coffee plant, scientifically known as Coffea, is a green shrub or small tree that typically grows between 5-10 meters in height. Although, there are both dwarf and tall trees.

Coffee plants thrive in specific environmental conditions. They require moderate temperatures, ample rainfall, and well-draining soil.

On an average, the lifecycle of a coffee plant spans about 20-25 years.

Depending on the variety, the newly planted coffee plants will approximately take around 3-5 years to mature and start producing fruit. And the fruit is called as ‘Coffee Cherry’.
The coffee cherry starts as a green berry and ripens into a shade of bright red and ready to be harvested. Each cherry contains two coffee beans nestled within.

Once the plant starts producing fruit, it can continue to produce fruits for several decades, provided it receives proper care and maintenance.

The coffee world mainly revolves around two primary and widely cultivated species: Arabica and Robusta.

In brief, the process of coffee cultivation in Kaimara encompasses the following stages:

  • Planting: Coffee plants are usually propagated through seeds or cuttings.
  • Maintenance: Coffee plants require shade during their early growth stages. Regular pruning, weeding, and proper shade management are essential for healthy plant growth.
  • Harvesting: We prefer to handpick the ripened coffee cherries.
